The Audrey Jacket from Colette Patterns was my first jacket in quite a while. I made this one as part of the 12patternsplus sewing challenge on Insta and I am grateful for the nudge each month to keep trying new patterns.
There were a few techniques in this one that I hadn’t come across before. The welt pocket construction was new for me and it was a bit of a challenge! The instructions were not clear and I would have spent a lot longer trying to work it out if it weren’t for a youtube video from Sewsewlive.
It is a nice addition and the pocket it creates is a nice roomy one but the pocket opening could be a little longer to make getting your hand in easier.
Everything else came together pretty easily except for the front placket. I don’t know what happened but I ended up having to scrap the marked fold lines and notches and just eyeball how much I needed to fold and sew over to make the placket the right size to fit the collar correctly. As a result the bottom band ended up being too short so I had to ease the bodice sections into it to make it fit.
I used a faux suede for this jacket as I have learnt that these days I don’t reach for a garment to wear unless it is comfortable. The fabric is soft and not at all scratchy. It washes well and is a colour that will work in with a lot of my wardrobe. I picked up this fabric on clearance at Lincraft so it was a safe choice for the first time trying this pattern.
I made the size I measured and the arms and back are a really nice fit but the front is very roomy. This is a great fit if you are busty or have a tummy.
The buttons were not what I set out to buy but when I couldn’t find what I had in mind these jumped out out me. Another lucky find in Lincraft!
There were some tricky steps to make this jacket come together but now I have the pattern I know I will sew another version when I see the right fabric.
