My latest make is the Kimberly Dress designed by Athina Kakou.

This was a really simple sew that came together quite quickly. The only adjustments I made was to shorten the shoulders by 1cm each side and to omit the back zip closure.

I have discovered that even though the bodice is semi fitted I can get away with not having a back opening when there is a V neckline. I prefer the more streamlined look of the back without a zip and it made for a really quick and easy sew. As long as you are comfortable easing in a sleeve (there was a bit of fiddling as there is a slight puff to this one) then you are good to go. I would say this one is suitable for an advanced beginner.

The dress sits nicely on my waist and the V neck is a modest cut for me. When I make it again I am going to size down for the bodice so it sits a bit snugger across my shoulders and grade out to the size I have sewn here for my waist and skirt.

I have made this version out of a heavy poly cotton suiting fabric will ensure that the skirt doesn’t fly up with the slightest puff of wind and the pockets are super handy for keys etc.

I think the Kimberly would be fun styled with a thin coloured belt, shoes, cardi or jacket and I am looking forward to having fun creating lots of different looks.
