I have knitted two different patterns from this book now and they won’t be the last! Patons book 8009 has a jumper pattern (with 3 different neck options), a feather and fan scarf and a shrug. I found a copy at my local Spotlight store a few years ago.
I would consider myself to be a beginner knitter, everything I have learnt is from Youtube or books and I am learning every time I complete another project. I loved this pattern as it was very simple, the instructions were clear and once you were up and running it could be picked up and put down easily. The majority of the two jumpers I made were knitted in the car in between drop offs and pick ups and waiting for kids at training. Many rows were completed in darkness so the pattern really is straight forward!
I made the grey version first then sized down to make the green one as it was quite a loose fit.
The yarn I used was Moda Vera Collette which is a lovely soft squishy acrylic/wool combination and it behaved itself very well to knit. It’s extremely warm to wear and copes well with being washed in the machine. This is a necessity for any knits that join my family, there just isn’t time for hand washing in this house at the moment. It has a really gorgeous base colour with some contrast flecks throughout.
The grey has been worn and washed for two years now and the green for one and they still look like they did when they were made.
The other naughty thing I do with my knits is to machine sew the seams together. I do hand sew the seams as you are supposed to but I am never happy with the way they sit. They look bumpy and gappy, probably my lack of practice at this stage. I have solved this by turning the garments inside out and running the hand sewn seam under my sewing machine on a long stitch setting.
When you turn it right side out the seam looks much neater and I am sure will be much sturdier and help the jumper hold it’s shape.
I also have this yarn in navy and will knit up another version next Winter.
