Pattern Reviews Refashioning Sewing Thrifting

Simplicity 1199

To be honest I don’t love sewing with knits, however I do love wearing knits.  I am trying to enjoy sewing with knits which is why I thought I would give Simplicity 1199 a go.  It seemed to be a good basic to get over my aversion to sewing with knits and it was.

I have made view E a couple of times by only using the outer layer pieces.  This was a super quick and easy sew.  No tricky bindings for the neckline or armholes, just fold over a narrow hem and your done.

My first version was from fabric used from refashioning a strapless dress with a shirred bodice.  I wore it a lot in my 30’s but I hadn’t worn it at all last Summer so according to my strict wardrobe limiting rules, it was time to go!  Originally the fabric came from an Op shop find so it certainly has been around for awhile.  It is a thin synthetic but I am not sure what exactly.  It feels like a polyester???  It is really stretchy and very cool so it gets worn a lot in Summer with shorts.

My second try with this pattern was scrap busting with another fabric that had been a maxi when I was trying another knit pattern, that one did NOT work out so well.  The fabric from the maxi became one of these shirts and I had enough left over for this pattern also.

This also feels like a polyester but was really easy to sew.  This pattern will be a great basic to have in my stash.
