I saw Sewmanju hack Simplicity 8014 into a shirt on Insta and had been looking for a button shirt pattern so thought I’d give it a go!

I’m happy to say that it worked out well so I’m going to have another go at a long sleeve version and invest some time and fabric to do the shirt dress in future.

The instructions were fine but I would definitely say this is still an intermediate sewing project. Collars are always tricky but luckily in this pattern the measurements were good so it went pretty smoothly.

I sewed my version with a thrifted Navy cotton and this was the perfect weight for this shirt. It looks cute worn out or tucked in and that is because the fabric is not too heavy. I don’t love my button choices but I chose the best of what was available in store and will keep an eye out for more.

The only other adjustments I made were my standard ones to grade out for my tummy/hip area. I thought I might have to widen the sleeve but they were fine.

This was an easy pattern to follow with great results so I’ll definitely be giving this one another go!
