The Madrid Dress

I was in the testing group for a faux wrap dress designed by Coffee & Thread called the Madrid Dress and Tunic.

The first version I tried was the dress and I ended up with a gorgeous boho style, floaty Summer dress.

I made the midi version but the maxi version would have been lovely with this rayon fabric. The pattern is designed to have a fitted bodice and if that is the style you are going for, my advice would be to choose your size according to your upper bust measurement and make any adjustments that you might need. If you are looking for a fit that is a bit looser, then choose your size according to your full bust measurement.

The pattern is also designed to be worn with a belt which does change the look of the dress, so again it depends on what look you are going for.

Olga has worked hard to perfect the fit of the cross-over bodice and if you follow the simple instructions she offers you will end up with a perfectly fitting dress. I love the flutter sleeves option and the proportions are just right for this style.

The next version I sewed was the tunic with the long sleeve option.

The only adjustments I made to this version was to shorten the shoulders by 1cm each side and to add a bias cuff to the bottom of the sleeve.

I love how versatile this top is. I will wear this one with dress pants for work and with jeans for a casual look.

The pattern was a simple sew because of the clear instructions and the fit is exceptional! This pattern will get lots of use, there are so many styles I can create between the dress length and the three sleeve options. I’m really looking forward to trying some of Olga’s other patterns.
