The Seamwork Tacara Dress

I made one of the Tacara Dresses from Seamwork this Winter and I think I have worn it for the last time this year. Our Spring weather has been quite mild so far but the thick mystery knit I made it out of was too warm for today. It has been one of my favourite garments to wear over Winter as it had the warmth I needed, it layered well so I could adjust at work moving in and out of different temperatures and it was soooo comfy!

This year I have loved clean, simple lines and that is what first attracted me to this design. I left out the pockets to keep it streamlined and I sized down to make it more fitted as the knit I used was too thick to drape well.

The simple design works well with a little sleeve detail and bias trim neckline.

The sleeve is nice firm fit which is great to tuck in under jackets and sits at a 3/4 length on me. My next version will be in a lighter version so I can sew my correct size and have more drape and the lighter fabric will hopefully mean I can wear it through more seasons.

  1. Hi, this is really similar to my experience. Just wondering, did you have to lengthen the bias binding at all? The pattern piece seems way too short, not sure what I’ve done!

    1. Hi Ruth! I did have to lengthen the bias. I am in the habit now of always cutting them longer then the pattern piece. I do a rough pin, work exactly how long it needs to be and trim it before I start. I have been caught out too many times!
